Concert Reviews
... Monday night at the Austrian Embassy, violinist Eva Steinschaden and pianist Alexander Vavtar played nearly every note they sounded with the utmost emphasis. In Anton Webern's "Four Pieces" for violin and piano, and György Kurtág's "Three Pieces" for violin and piano, Steinschaden and Vavtar powerfully projected what little was there, so that one's imagination was sparked to fill in the gaps between notes and phrases in the Webern, and the few elements in the more rhythmic Kurtág implied a larger-scale structure.
