The latest CD by the Duo :nota bene:, publicated in September 2010, is devoted entirely to works by Franz Schubert: his last three sonatas for piano and violin.
Composed in 1815/1816 – one of the most carefree and productive periods of Schubert's short life – these works afford an excellent insight into the atmosphere of the incipient Biedermeier era. They reflect the escape into a private idyll, Jean Paul's "complete happiness within limitations".
The Duo :nota bene: went in quest of the sound which would characterise this influential period of Austrian history, in order to give an unpretentious interpretation true to Schubert's original score.
The new CD is available under the Viennese Extraplatte label.
